Not to be confused with Newquay.

New Quay (Welsh: Cei Newydd) is a seaside resort town in Ceredigion, popular for its fine beaches and harbour. It's also a good place to spot bottlenose dolphins.

Understand

[edit]
People enjoy the view on New Quay's harbour and pier.

Only some 1050 people (2021) live permanently in this town on Cardian Bay, but in season this number increases significantly as the holiday parks around town fill up.

Although the tourism industry has found its way here, New Quay maintains its feel as a fishermen's village. Indeed, sea fishing and fish processing remain large sources of employment and income.

For visitors, the main sights are the beautiful little harbour and of course the beach. Bottlenose dolphins live in the bay and can regularly be spotted from the beach.

Do

[edit]
  • Hop on a boat for a couple of hours of crab fishing, fishing, or dolphin spotting.
  • Hike around town. One of the best routes is the Cei Bach circular walk, best taken at low tide so you can return via the beach.

Events

[edit]
  • Cardigan Bay Regatta: . This regatta, held in August, goes back to the 1870s or further and boast cruiser racing, rowing, swimming and other water related competitions. (date needs fixing)
